Restoration Builders of Indiana, based in Chesterton, presents itself as a multi-service contractor specializing in roofing, siding, and various types of property restoration. When evaluating any local business for projects as significant as a full roof replacement or storm repair, it is essential for Indiana residents to look beyond the stated list of services and understand the company's track record and operational standards as reported by past clients. This detailed overview provides the factual information necessary for an informed decision, based solely on the public data provided.
The types of services offered by Restoration Builders of Indiana are extensive, covering both residential and commercial needs, often positioning them as a single point of contact for complex exterior and disaster-related repairs. While the scope of work they claim to handle is broad, any evaluation must balance this with an understanding of reported service execution and customer experience. For local users in Chesterton and surrounding Indiana communities, an upfront assessment of a contractor’s commitment to safety, timeliness, and financial transparency—especially regarding insurance claims—is paramount.

Factual Customer Reports and Operational Concerns
While the range of services is extensive, potential clients must be aware of the significant operational and quality control issues reported in the public customer reviews provided. These reports detail severe lapses in professionalism, project management, cleanup, safety, and billing practices.
Key issues factually reported by customers include:
- Extreme Project Delays and Communication Failure: One client reported that a new roof installation took six months to begin, requiring "repeated calls" due to a total "No communication" from the company, only receiving "excuses of people quitting."
- Hazardous and Incomplete Cleanup: A customer reported finding "at least 100 nails in my gravel driveway" along with flaking paint and foam backing "all over my property," directly stating that a professional company "should lay down tarps and clean up better."
- Property Damage by Workers: Workers were reported to have caused damage during removal, including scratching/denting existing window trim, tearing numerous screens, and using tools improperly on the roof, which caused a Leaking Roof, resulting in cracked drywall and peeling paint inside the home.
- Critical Safety Violations: A serious safety issue was reported where the contractor allegedly replaced a **double-walled pipe for a fireplace with a furnace pipe**, a substitution that could have potentially caused the house to burn down if not caught by the homeowner.
- Allegations of Insurance Fraud and Misbilling: Customers alleged that the company attempted to scam the insurance company, charging for work that was not completed (e.g., 12 sheets of plywood) and installing a USED drip edge of the wrong color while charging the insurance company for new materials.
- Threats and Lack of Remedial Action: After property damage and installation issues were reported, one customer stated that the company "threaten us a lien on our house, threatened to Sue us" for the remaining money. They also failed to repair documented damages, including screens and trim, and took six weeks and repeated contact to fix bowed siding and gaps.
These documented reports indicate a severe disparity between the professional services advertised and the actual execution, quality control, safety protocols, and customer service provided.

What is Worth Choosing: A Factual Summary
When considering Restoration Builders of Indiana for a substantial home project such as a Full Roof Replacement or comprehensive Insurance Restoration following Hail Damaged Roof or Wind damage, the primary value proposition is the wide scope of their listed services—ranging from various complex roof types to siding, windows, and water damage repair. However, based on the provided customer feedback, potential clients in Indiana must exercise extreme caution.
What is worth noting is the discrepancy between their stated commitment to professionalism and the factual reports of their conduct. While they claim to handle the Insurance Claim process well, customers reported significant delays, severe property damage (including a leak that cracked drywall), and dangerous installation practices (the wrong type of flue pipe). Furthermore, the reports of charging insurance for work not completed, using used materials when billing for new, and threatening clients with legal action when repairs were requested are major red flags that outweigh any perceived benefit of their broad service list.
Ultimately, local Indiana users seeking a reliable, safe, and ethically sound contractor for their home or commercial building projects should treat the serious safety and integrity concerns detailed in the public records as the most critical factor in their decision-making process. The financial and structural risk associated with documented poor quality control, lack of communication, and alleged safety violations suggests that a thorough vetting of alternative, more consistently reliable contractors is highly recommended before engaging with this company.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I hired Restoration Builders for new siding. They did handle the insurance claim well and started installation within the given timeframe. The problems came after installation. I found at least 100 nails in my gravel driveway, as well as flaking paint and foam backing from the old siding all over my property. A professional company should lay down tarps and clean up better. They also dented/scratched existing window trim and tore numerous screens while removing the old aluminum siding. Most of the new siding looked good, however there were a couple sections with bowed siding and gaps around trim. The workers did not speak English to discuss my issues and the quality control guy Dave came while I wasn't home and signed off on the job. After I contacted him about the issues he came back out and agreed repairs were needed. It then took 6 weeks and repeated contact to get them out to repair the siding. They never repaired the screens or trim. Furthermore, after receiving a note from the water department that my meter wasn't working, I realized they installed the outside meter upside down with a broken wire, which I fixed myself. Due to lack of professionalism I cannot recommend this company. A better cleanup and prompt repairs would have received a much better review.
Jul 12, 2023 · Aaron PolanIf I could give them a minus 5 I would ! Where do we begin ? Hired them to handle the insurance claim and do our new roof . Took them 6 months to finally put on a roof , with repeated calls to them asking when it’s gonna start . No communication from anyone except excuses of people quitting . They tried and scammed our insurance company telling them they had to replace 12 sheets of plywood . When I was home all day and they didn’t !! They were a scam from the word go!! Roofer stabbed pitch forks in our roof causing it to leak when we got a good rain in turn ,our drywall i cracked and paint pealed off the wall where the rain came Down . They painted our pipes which we didn’t ask for , They replaced a double walled pipe for our fireplace with a furnace pipe !! Our house could have burned down if my husband didn’t notice . They put a USED drip edge on our house that was a different color than what we agreed on and charged insurance company for new !! This company is far from professional !!When we tried several times to address problems that needed to be taken care of they threaten us a lien on our house , threatened to Sue us !! Calls after calls harassing us for the rest of the money . We got another estimate from another company for the stuff they either laughed in our face about or refused to finish and it was well over 8,000 . I would say RUN !!!! DONT DO IT!! Stay far away!!
Jul 18, 2025 · Michelle Jarosakroof has leaked for last 5 years the have done it, came and repaired twice and still leaking. Reached back out and spoke to a rep there and he said he along with the rest of the company has been laid off so they can not cover the roof any more. RUN AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!
Jul 11, 2025 · CalebJoshua Muhm was a pleasure to work with. Very responsive, communication was awesome, I always knew the timing of the home repairs and they were always on time with what he stated. I would definitely recommend calling Joshua and using this company.
Nov 14, 2022 · Diana BravoWe worked with Elijah from this company and he was outstanding. Our insurance company didn't want to replace our siding and it took 2 months of battling with them to get it approved. Elijah was confident that he would beat the insurance company on the claim, and sure enough, he did.Our new siding looks great and the staff that came out to install it were very kind and professional.I would highly recommend Elijah and his staff for assistance with repairing your roof/siding after it has been damaged due to a storm.
