Groundworks Introduce
For homeowners across Pennsylvania, especially those residing in the historic homes of York County and the greater Central PA region, the integrity of your home's foundation and basement is non-negotiable. Dealing with water intrusion, shifting foundations, or damp crawl spaces requires a specialized expert—a general contractor with deep, focused experience in the critical lower levels of your home. Groundworks, operating from its base in York, PA, is precisely that specialist, providing essential contracting services that go beyond simple repairs to offer long-term, structural solutions.
Groundworks is not a general contractor that handles simple kitchen remodels or painting; their expertise is dedicated to the complex and crucial fields of foundation stability, basement waterproofing, and concrete work. In Pennsylvania, where seasonal changes and hydrostatic pressure can pose serious threats to residential structures, this specialization is invaluable. Their work is fundamentally about preserving the value, safety, and health of your property, tackling problems that, if left unaddressed, can lead to catastrophic damage and expensive future repairs. Services such as foundation repair and basement waterproofing are proactive measures against the elements, a necessary investment for any Pennsylvanian homeowner.
The company’s focus on water management and structural repair means they understand the unique geological and construction challenges common in this region. Whether your home is experiencing bowing basement walls, sinking concrete slabs, or persistent moisture issues in the crawl space, Groundworks brings a dedicated suite of solutions. This expertise positions them as an essential partner for those looking to convert a damp basement into usable space or simply ensure their foundation is solid for decades to come.
The customer experience with a specialized contractor like Groundworks can be highly project-dependent. While some clients have reported outstanding results, praising the crew's knowledge, problem-solving skills, and respectful demeanor—noting a crew that was "amazing" and "very knowledgeable" with excellent communication—others have faced significant challenges. One client highlighted a crew, including Gilbert Lopez, Donald Ellis, and Edwin Soto Cruz, who "really showed how much they cared about me as a person and not just another customer," delivering an "amazing job" on a drainage system and vapor barrier installation. This level of personalized service and commitment to the immediate on-site work is a significant positive for any homeowner in need of critical structural repairs.
However, it is vital for potential customers to be aware that complex contracting projects often involve multiple stages and departments, which can sometimes lead to communication gaps. Another customer detailed a challenging experience involving sales promises, follow-through on promised supplementary services (like air filtration installation and proper electrical wiring), and cleanup. While the customer noted that issues were "almost completely resolved" after the intervention of the general manager, this highlights the importance of confirming every detail of a large-scale project in writing, especially when it involves specialized equipment and complex multi-trade coordination like electrical work and specialized air systems.
For residents of York and the surrounding areas, selecting a contractor means weighing the essential specialty work they perform against the commitment to delivering a complete, hassle-free service. Groundworks’ core strength lies in its specialized construction and restoration knowledge. Their teams are adept at concrete lifting, installing new drainage systems, and structural foundation work—tasks that a general handyman simply cannot undertake. By specializing in these services, Groundworks offers the specific skill sets needed to secure the most vulnerable parts of your Pennsylvania home against water and time.
In summary, if your need is foundational—if you are battling water damage, basement leaks, or foundation instability—Groundworks provides the critical specialized contracting expertise required in Central Pennsylvania. It is prudent for any homeowner to clearly delineate expectations for scope, timeline, and all promised follow-up services with the project manager to ensure a seamless experience from start to finish, leveraging the technical skills that the on-site crews clearly possess.

May 30, 2025 · Angela Stewart*Update - have been contacted by general manager, and the issue of cleaning check has been almost completely resolved! Currently waiting for answer regarding issue of air filtration return and reimbursement for electrician.NOTE: I have never left a negative review prior to this one - see profile. What was sold as a fast, dust-free waterproofing job turned into months of hazardous mess, broken promises, and chronic headaches. We paid $20,000 to Groundworks (formerly Baker’s Waterproofing) for a dust-free, 3-day waterproofing job. Instead, our entire home was left coated in concrete dust, with waterproofing only partially complete, and unsafe wiring still powers our sump pump. Promised electrician service, cleaning, and a $750 reimbursement never happened. Three months later, we still can’t use the exhorbitantly overpriced air filtration system we were sold. What was meant to facilitate precious time with new baby and beloved aging parents ended up costing months of arduous cleaning, undue stress, and so much time due to egregious lack of response and broken promises from Production Manager keeping this project on hold.**Continue below for more detailed descriptions and picturesTo begin, we were pushed by the sales team (contacted the majority of days out of 3-4 weeks), purportedly as they couldn't fit us in otherwise. They supposedly work fast and get the job completed over 3 days, during which we would need to be out of the house. A top selling point: how they systematically prevent dust from entering the rest of the home. Given that understanding, we decided to go ahead, round up our family including both kitties, and book a few nights at the beach, thinking we did not need to prep the house. The morning it was to begin, we were leaving as the team arrived. I noticed they were already jackhammering while sparsely taping loose plastic over only 1 connecting doorway. This prompted me to ask the foreman, using specific wording, "There will be a slight layer of dust right?" No, no dust, I was reassured. I then requested they place additional plastic and even placed some extra tape myself, also requesting tape to cover several holes in the floor myself. The noise was so loud, my family was waiting outside by then and I did not have time to do more, figuring I should be able to trust their process. I was wrong.Immediate installation was rushed. They left noticeable gaps in the plastic sealant on the walls, and our main area of concern, an old cemented closet, leaked with the first rain. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. The initial red flag when we arrived home was a cement-covered front door, opening into our once clean home, which was now completely covered in concrete dust. Additionally, the "specialized air filtration system" was a heavy metal box sitting on loose cones. It had so many wires rigged to fit into one outlet, it tripped the breaker every time we did laundry. Apparently, the team foreman had not been made aware that we were even contracted for air filtration. He did some good work and went the extra mile to install pipes out of the way, yet the company appears to lack proper communication channels, while the sales team makes far-reaching promises. An electrician was promised to properly install it and the sump pump on their own circuits as originally contracted—never happened. It's now been almost 3 months. The Production Manager, Brian, just never followed through, despite repeated calls and promises. Charging us 20,000 dollars for a job that typically runs 8-10,000 at most, we expected top-of-the-line service. What we got is an ongoing headache and egregious waste of our time and money.
Sep 03, 2025 · Rebekah AllisonUpdate: Just weeks after the job was done the moisture barrier is folded and there's a leak in a pipe that causes the pump to run constantly after it rains. I have contacted them at 3 times over the past few weeks and no one has been out to fix it! With the outrageous cost, not only did we expect it to last 20yrs + like we were told, but they should also stand by there work. Needless to say, we feel scammed. The job was completed in 3 days with just a few hours per day. Cliff Wertz and George Wertz worked very efficiently. This was definitely an unexpected $35,000+ of debt but it was needed to remove the moisture in our crawl space.
Aug 11, 2025 · Lynn JonesAnthony and his crew were great to work with on our basement foundation work. All the guys are very hard working and super positive all the time. They worked with me on my various requests and strived to meet my expectations. We are very happy with the final outcome and how things were left. Matt, James and Christian worked hard in the rain to clean up the yard at the end, very appreciative of their efforts.
Jun 18, 2025 · JOur entire experience with Groundworks - scheduling, consult with Dominic, work led by Gilbert and his crew - exceeded our expectations. Every person in this organization demonstrated expertise in water damage mitigation and basement waterproofing, they were communicative and patient in answering any and every question, and the work quality was exactly as advertised. I have already recommended them to several neighbors and family members, and will continue to do so. We have gotten estimates from a few groups; no company demonstrated the professionalism and care that Groundworks did. Thanks to Gilbert, Dominic, and the entire team.
