What is Worth Choosing
Choosing a restoration and environmental consultant is a decision that impacts not just your property's structure, but the health and safety of its occupants. Grand Rapids Water Restoration Services (UDECON) offers a compelling profile for Michigan clients, largely due to their unique intersection of specialized environmental abatement and general construction expertise.
Their core value proposition lies in the breadth of their specialization. While many companies handle water or fire damage, few in the general restoration category are equipped to manage the highly regulated and complex process of asbestos abatement, lead abatement, and decontamination services like meth lab cleanup. This means property owners—especially those dealing with older Michigan homes or commercial facilities—can avoid the logistical headache of hiring multiple specialized contractors. UDECON acts as a single point of contact for resolving both disaster damage and underlying environmental hazards, streamlining the timeline for recovery and reconstruction.
The focus on 'healthy indoor environments' is a modern necessity. With services that include Air Quality Testing and the remediation of mold and other air pollutants, they demonstrate an understanding of the long-term health implications of property damage. They aim to not just repair a building but to certify it as a healthy place to be.
However, as with any service requiring specialized knowledge and significant investment, it is always recommended for Michigan users to engage in due diligence. Restoration and abatement work can involve high costs and detailed scopes of work. The customer experience suggests two very different outcomes: one customer noted a timely response and a fair quote for asbestos-wrap removal, while another described an unreasonably high quote and a negative interaction regarding their estimation fee. This highlights the importance of thorough communication regarding the scope and cost of initial assessment fees versus the final project quote. Clients should ensure they receive a detailed breakdown of services, especially for specialized work like asbestos abatement, and are encouraged to compare quotes from multiple qualified and certified local contractors, even when opting for UDECON's broader service menu. Ultimately, UDECON’s full-service capability makes them an important contender for complex restoration projects in the Grand Rapids area, but informed consumer choice remains key.

Grand Rapids Water Restoration Services Reviews
I spoke to various contractors to obtain estimates for the removal of an asbestos coated octopus furnace from a residential dwelling. UDECON charges $150.00 for an estimate. UDECON came and took measurements for the estimate, and I paid them $150.00.In the meantime, another contractor provided an estimate for $1,200.00 to do the work. Even though I was still waiting for the UDECON estimate, I decided to go forward with the other company, who pulled all necessary permits, took all necessary safety precautions including containment, supplied air, etc. and completed the work in 1 day.UDECON ultimately provided an estimate in the amount of $12,400.00 (10x the amount of the competing estimate). I told UDECON that I believe that their estimate was unreasonable and requested a refund of the $150 estimate fee, which they refused to give.I informed UDECON that in light of their refusal to refund my estimate fee, I would be leaving negative feedback because I paid for a reasonable estimate, which I did not receive. In response, UDECON threatened to sue me stating that:“In lieu of your black mail (sic) response, I would be happy to send this off to our attorneys, along with signed contract by you, and the email chain consistent with slander threats. Please let me know if you change your mind.”I was contacted by the owner of UDECON, and I told him I would wait 7 days before I left negative feedback to see if they still wanted to resolve the matter. It has been over 30 days and UDECON still has failed to address my concerns or refund the estimate fee.I would strongly advise against using this company. I have been hiring contractors for over 10 years and have never left negative feedback. It is my opinion that UDECON provides estimates that are patently unreasonable. UDECON also resorted to thuggish litigation threats instead of trying to resolve matters with me. Save your $150.00 and go with a different company. Ultimately, going with a competitor saved me $11,200.00.UDECON fooled me once; Shame on them.
Mar 16, 2017 · Phillip BenjaminUDECON recently helped me get a quote on asbestos-wrap removal from the HVAC ducts of an old house I was in the inspection period for, prior to purchase. UDECON was timely and highly communicative (extremely helpful during an inspection period!!). The quote amount came in at a very fair price, and although I didn't end up buying the house, I will definitely consider UDECON in the future. They seem like great guys.
