Apr 25, 2025 · LaTasha AlstonMy experience with American Water Damage was mixed. I had a burst water pipe in my living and dining room area at the end of January. The plumber who I called first, called AWD. They responded rapidly. They did the mitigation of tearing out my hardwood floor, removing part of the wall where the pipe was, moving my furniture into a POD they requested be delivered to my property, and packed items into 14 boxes that were taken to the second floor of my house. The mitigation division is one division of AWD. For the most part my experience was good with them. The other division of AWD is restoration and repair. My experience with certain staff was disappointing. I had to get a new floor installed and the wall replaced and painted. Communication was poor and lacking from Jeremy. Although he was polite and courteous, as were all the staff, I had to call and call, and initiate most communication with Jeremy. He gave me one excuse and reason after the next as to why they were not getting to me yet. He would not even tell me an approximate date. He finally gave me one date and did not follow through, did not call me, no crew showed up. I called him the next day. More excuses. He did not reschedule me. He would just let me know when he had a crew ready. They have ten crews. Two weeks later i called Jeremy and left a message on his voice mail. I called the main office number and expressed my anger and frustration about my floor not having been done yet and no date set, about the lack of communication, etc. About two minutes later Jeremy calls me, says he will have Mark and a crew at my house the next day to do the scope of work walk through, and that the crew led by David will begin work on my floor the next morning. Mark and Rick were great to work with. They communicated with me, told me when they would be there, focused on the job, got things done, were responsible and accountable. They were professional and respectful. David and the Hispanic crew who installed my new floor did an excellent job. They finished the job in May. Mark came and checked out the job. Jeremy notified me about the pack in crew arrival time. Furniture back in my house. Mark came and did the final walk through of the job and called the company to come get the podoff my property. A few days later I called Justin about a few line item charges for clarification on the pack out and pack in section. I disputed the quantity charged versus what was actually used and counted in my house and another charge that appeared invalid because there was no reason for it. He made some reason for that charge which I disputed. During the course of conversation, he disrespected me, did not consider what I was stating to him, made false accusations, implications, insinuations, and tried to gaslight me. I have zero tolerance for this nonsense. I called my insurance adjuster and reported this to him and the invalid charges and some additional charges made at the fault of AWD. He had also questioned the same line item charges that I brought to his attention, thanked me for doing so, and said he would look into it. The negatives of AWD are poor communication, disrespect, a disregard of women clients, inefficiency, the length of time it takes for them to get to you for restoration and repair, a lack of caring, compassion, and empathy, a lack of communication between department managers, over charging, invalid charges. The positives of AWD are the rapid response time to an emergency, and the mitigation. Also the skilled crew I had who installed my new porcelain tile plank flooring and replaced and painted the wall taken out where the pipe burst in freezing weather. The respectful and professional staff, Mark and Rick. So on balance, all things considered, I give 3 stars to AWD.
