Bad experience. The drain in one of my rental units was blocked, and I hired a plumber who quoted about $675 to clear it. I agreed due to the urgency, even though other companies had quoted much less over the phone. Before he arrived, his colleague showed up first—not even a plumber—just to try to sell me additional services in case there was wall or floor damage. When the plumber finally came, things only got worse. As he attempted to fix the drain, water began pouring out and the situation quickly escalated. While the basement was flooding, I asked him to shut off the water to prevent further use, but he didn’t even know where the shutoff was. I had to remind him to at least use a bucket to collect the water, and only then did he realize it. Nothing was resolved. Later, the company sent another plumber who claimed the repair would cost $7,500, which was outrageous. I ultimately hired a different company, and they fixed the issue properly in less than an hour for $375.

------------8/14/2025Problem: leaking American Standard Vormax toiletsI called Roto-Rooter's location in Marlborough and was scheduled an appointment for next day. The scheduler was professional and courteous. She told me it would be $99 per trip and also recommended the Roto-Rooter app for me.During the appointment, the technician was also professional and friendly. He gave me a quote of ~$150 for parts for both toilets and ~$438 (if I remember correctly) in labor for each toilet. So if I go with the quote, it would cost more than $1000 for fixing two toilets.Noticing my hesitation, the technician offered to tighten the flush valve assembly to see if a quick fix would stop the leak. It did not.In the end, the technician looked up the item named "less than 5 minutes of work" in his price book, and charged me $239.The entire process was friendly and professional. I would have given a higher score if not for the cost. I was expecting to pay the $99 trip fee but didn't expect to pay $239 for "tightening" that did not solve the problem. Had I known, I would have prevented the technician from tightening and just paid the trip fee.My feedback is purely professional and nothing personal. I would like to share my experience so that other customers can have the right expectation in the future. That is, Roto-Rooter provides smooth scheduling service and their technicians are professional. But their cost is high even if the problem is not solved.----------------Update: 8/16/2025The technician visited my place on 8/13/2025. Today I just found out that Roto-Rooter double charged me for a total of $239 x 2 = $478.So not only did the technician not inform me beforehand there would be a $239 charge for "less than 5 minute of work", he also charged me twice after informing me it was $239.I called them and the operator told me they would contact the branch manager to discussing charges with me.The manager did call me back shortly after. He initially tried to tell me there was a flat price and asked me if the technician performed any work. I told him that was a different issue. My credit card has been charged twice. This is clearly a duplicate charge. He told me this was the weekend and he would need to investigate the issue on Monday when he's back in the office.So I am waiting to hear back from the branch manager on Monday and will update on the progress.----------------------------update on 8/21/2025Roto-Rooter did refund me on Monday 8/18/2025 for the duplicate charge. Regarding the original complain of excessive charge, there is no resolution. The manager asked me if the technician had done "any work". He did put his hands in the tank for about 20 seconds, which did not fix anything. Does that count as work that costs $239? If so, why not tell me beforehand?

Not just for Roto-Rooter, Aldaine is the industry standard for plumbers. He is a well-spoken, competent, and professional person. I'd like to see him launch his own business. Roto-Rooter is the only one I would use because of him. I would only inquire for him if I needed more assistance. I'm going to his business if he starts one. Enough said!!! He was awesome!
